1. Theophilus MORGAN was born about 1760 in North Carolina. He died on 18 Aug 1844 in Desoto County, Mississippi.
Theophilus married Ruth OWENS, daughter of Basil OWINGS and Bathsheba, on 6 Aug 1784 in Rowan County, North Carolina.
Theophilus Morgan was a Revolutionary soldier, and a relative of General
Daniel Morgan, of Revolutionary fame. He was present atthe surrender of General
Cornwallis.
THEOPHILUS MORGAN was a North Carolina Militia member. He enlisted into the NC
Militia in Rowan Co., NC He married Nancy Mason 20 Jan 1813 in Robertson County,
TN. He died 18 Aug 1844
in DeSoto County, MS. His widow applied for a pension in 1875 in Madison
County, TN at age 85. Children were Lucretia Morgan, Henry H. Morgan, Theophilus
B. Morgan, Bryant C. Morgan,
(1 child name cannot be read), Thomas J. Morgan, Perry M. Morgan and Nancy E.

Sixteen Years of Age Surviving State of Tennessee,
County of Madison On this 28 day of December, A.D. 1875 personally appeared
before me S. D. Barnett Clerk of the County Court of said County the same being
a court of record within and for
the County and State aforesaid, Nancy Morgan aged 85 years, who, being
duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain
the pension provided by Acts of Congress
granting pensions to widows: That she is the widow of Theophilus Morgan who
enlisted under the name of Theophilus Morgan at Rowan County North Carolina on
the __ day of about the year, A.D. 1780,
in Carlton's Command Davidson's division in the war of the Revolution, who
died in the year 1844 of congestion of the lungs in DeSoto County Mississippi on
the 18th day of August, A.D.1844,
who bore at the time of his death the rank of private, in Cavalry service
aforesaid; that she was married under the name of Nancy Mason to the said
Theophilus Morgan on the 20th day of January, A.D. 1813
by Esquire Duncan at Robertson County Tennessee, there being no legal barrier to
such marriage; that she has not been previously married but her husband had been
previously married to Ruth Owens
by whom he had 8 children, ages of children not know, that she has to the
present date remained his widow; that the following all the names and dates of
birthof all his legitimate children yet surviving
who are under 16years of age at my father's death, to wit: His by herself

she hereby appoints Thomas C. Moore
