Page 13: Spring Creek, TN July 10th 1854. Sir: In reply to your
letter of the 22nd ultimo, relative to the informal application of the children
of Rosa Wood, dec'd, I can only say that the declaration was sworn before a
Justice
of the Peace, who was, and ia member of the ? Quorum Court, which is a court of
record, at the time the court was in session. That it was not done in the
courthouse, yet it was done before a court of record. This is a small
matter, and one that can be easily ?remedied. The family record of Caleb Wood
shows that he was born in 1791, but there are many children older than him,
which can be proven.??? from the military records of NC will
state, that it is traditionally known to the children, that their father was
imprisoned by the British at Charleston, S.C. during the War of Revolution which
is sufficient to identify his service.I am respectfully your obdn't. servt,
George W. Talbot Hon. L. P. Waldo Washington City, D. C.
