Family of Rebecca BURTON (5) & John Duncan ROBERTS

22. Donie ROBERTS. Born on 9 Dec 1858. At the age of 37, Donie died on 11 Jun 1896. Buried in Jun 1896 in Hare Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Alias/AKA: "Polly".

On 15 Apr 1877 when Donie was 18, she married A.R. APPLEBY, in Henderson County, Tennessee. Born on 19 Nov 1855. At the age of 86, A.R. died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 3 Apr 1942. Buried in Apr 1942 in Hare Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Occupation: Farmer and later in life, a merchant at Law and Broadway, Tennessee. Alias/AKA: "Cajer".


They had the following children:

iii. Addie Lake. Born on 29 Dec 1880. Addie Lake died on 22 Apr 1881. Buried in Apr 1881 in Hare Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

v. James O.. Born in 1884. At the age of 12, James O. died in May 1896. Buried in May 2896 in Hare Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

vi. Luther. Born in 1886. At the age of 10, Luther died on 2 Jun 1896. Buried in Jun 1896 in Hare Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

vii. Emmons. Born in 1893. At the age of 3, Emmons died on 23 May 1896. Buried in May 1896 in Hare Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.


23. John Duncan ROBERTS. Born on 14 Apr 1869 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 76, John Duncan died in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee on 6 Oct 1945. Buried in 1945 in Hare Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee in 1923.

On 15 Oct 1891 when John Duncan was 22, he married Mary Jane AZBILL, daughter of Harvey AZBILL (1842-1920) & Nancy Jane HOWELL (1846-1914). Born on 7 Nov 1868. At the age of 87, Mary Jane died on 18 Nov 1955. Buried in Nov 1955 in Hare Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

They had the following children:
i. Ethel. Born on 30 Dec 1907. At the age of 10, Ethel died on 13 Feb 1918. Buried in Feb 1918 in Hare Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

24. Charles Thomas ROBERTS. Born in 1871 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 73, Charles Thomas died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 30 Jan 1944. Buried in 1944 in Hare Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in Henderson County, Tennessee in 1923.


Charles Thomas married Susie E. RUSH. Born in 1871. At the age of 86, Susie E. died in 1957. Buried in 1957 in Hare Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

They had the following children:

25. George W. ROBERTS. Resided in Henderson, Chester County, Tennessee in 1923.

George W. married Martha Viola ALTOM, daughter of David Crockett ALTOM (-1902) & Sarah SHIPMAN.

They had the following children:
i. John Walter. Born on 6 Sep 1902 in Henderson County, Tennessee.

In 1923 Walter Roberts, a native Henderson Countian, was hired by Gibson County Superintendent F. L. Browning (brother to former Governor Gordon Browning) to be principal of Medina High School. He also taught five classes and coached the new game of basketball. During one period five members of his family were teaching school. Mr. Roberts was senior class president and valedictorian of the class of 1922 at what is now known as Freed Hardeman University.

iii. Sarah Rebecca.

iv. Georgia Crockett. Born in Henderson County, Tennessee.

v. Wilton. Born in Henderson County, Tennessee.

vi. Charles Clifton. Born in Henderson County, Tennessee.

vii. Lyman Lanoice. Born in Chester County, Tennessee.
