Family of Nancy COFFMAN (7) & William LEGG

24. Sarah LEGG. Born in 1809 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. At the age of 51, Sarah died before 1860.

abt 1827 when Sarah was 18, she married Robert J. TINDALL.

They had one child:

25. David C. LEGG. Born on 4 Jan 1814 in Tennessee.

Autobiography: Legg, David C., Was born in East Tennessee January 4, 1814, and is a son of William Legg, who was also born in East Tennessee, in 1798. After attaining his majority he married Nancy Coffman, and soon moved to Jackson, Ala. where he remained about five years. He then moved to Limestone County, and there resided until his death in 1880. The mother was born in Jefferson County, Tenn., in 1800, and died in Limestone County, Ala., in 1880. David C. Legg was educated in the common schools and chose the free and independent life of a farmer as his calling through life. At the age of twenty-three he began working on his own responsibility, and in 1837 moved to the Lone Star State. The Indians were very troublesome , at the time, to white settlers, and he assisted the Texans in their war against them. and for his services received 320 acres of land. Besides this, he took and to the amount of 1,280 acres, and if these claims can be established, they will result in a handsome for! tune to Mr. Legg. To his marriage with Mary Halbert, in 1835, two children were born: James A. and Susan S. Mrs Legg died in Texas in 1840. In 1845 he wedded Mary J. Carlisle; and William W., Eliza J., Joel E., Rufus E., Theodocia, Emily E., Clelstia and Emma Clarinda are their children. Their mother died October 14, 1882. Mr. Legg married Mrs. Keziah Basshan, daughter of James Roper, September 24, 1884. Our subject is a Democrat and Mason, and he and wife are members of the Baptist and Methodist Episcopal Church, respectively.



On 17 Aug 1834 when David C. was 20, he first married Mary J. HOLBERT. Mary J. died in Texas in 1840.

They had the following children:

In 1845 when David C. was 30, he second married Mary J. CARLISLE. Mary J. died on 14 Oct 1882.

They had the following children:
i. Eliza J..

iv. Emily E..

v. Clelstia.

vi. Emma Clarinda.


On 24 Sep 1884 when David C. was 70, he third married Keziah ROPER, daughter of James ROPER.

26. Andrew C. LEGG. Born on 24 Jul 1820 in Alabama. At the age of 80, Andrew C. died on 10 Dec 1900. Resided in Limestone County, Alabama in 1850. Resided in District 2, Limestone County, Alabama in 1860.

On 22 Oct 1847 when Andrew C. was 27, he first married Tyra Ann WALKER. Born around 1817 in Alabama. Resided in Limestone County, Alabama in 1850.

They had one child:
i. Pamphylia. Born around 1850 in Limestone County, Alabama. Resided in District 2, Limestone County, Alabama in 1860.


On 8 Sep 1853 when Andrew C. was 33, he second married Martha GRAY. Born in 1836 in Alabama. Resided in District 2, Limestone County, Alabama in 1860.

They had the following children:
i. Emma T.. Born in 1855 in Limestone County, Alabama. Resided in District 2, Limestone County, Alabama in 1860.

ii. Sarah A.. Born in 1858 in Limestone County, Alabama. Resided in District 2, Limestone County, Alabama in 1860.
