Edward studied at the Nacogdoches Normal School and taught school afterward. He and Willie Blanche Baker lived at the Rhodes place in Garrison, Texas.
On 23 Dec 1893 when Edward Mitch was 27, he first married Willie Blanche BAKER, daughter of Thomas Hamilton BAKER & Mary Ann PARKS, in Nacogdoches County, Texas.
Willie died when her son Thomas was seven years old, at ge 41 after a prolonged illness. She died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Howard Irion, on North Street. The funeral was held at the Irion residence.
