"Lawrence Power died yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock at Center. The news was a great surprise and cast a gloom over Nacogdoches and vicinity. He recently purchased the Tenaha and Center telephone exchanges and the line between those two towns. He was well known throughout East Texas, having been connected with the various lines running out of Nacogdoches; the son of H.B Power of North Church neighborhood, and has many relatives and friends who mourn his death. His remains were brought to Nacogdoches for interment in the North Church Cemetery, where they will be buried this evening at 5 o'clock. "This is indeed a sad death. He was here for the last time Christmas week on a visit to his parents and friends. "It can be said of him that his only fault was his generosity. Raised on a farm he came to town about 4 years ago and went to work for the telephone company. He worked faithfully at this all this time and mastered the art in all its details. There was not perhaps in Texas a better all around telephone man. In such high esteem was he held by his old employer, Mr. E.C. Branch, that only a short time ago Mr. Branch bought for him the Center telephone property, thereby gaining for himself by hard work and close attention to business a position which would have soon made him independent. "Though cut off, in his life work in the prime of his young manhood, yet his efforts and success will prove a worthy example of what a young man can do. Of a genial dispostion, everybody was his friend. " A large crowd will go out to the burial from Nacogdoches. The burial hour was set fro 3 o'clock but was postponed till 5 o'clock on the request of a number of his warm friends from Luftkin, who wished to attend and could not get here until 3:30."
