Family of Paul GASTON (135) & Lula PIERCE

208. Mary GASTON. Born in 1908 in Madison County, Tennessee. At the age of 98, Mary died in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee on 21 Jun 2006. Buried on 24 Jun 2006 in Ridgecrest Cemetery, Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee. Resided in District 13, Gibson County, Tennessee in 1920. Resided in Medina, Gibson County, Tennessee in May 2006.

Obituary: Mary Gaston Cox, 99, of the Spring Creek Community of Madison County died June 21, 2006 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was born in Madison County, daughter of the late Paul and Lula Pierce Gaston. Mrs. Cox remained a lifelong resident of the Lebanon-Spring Creek Community, where she taught school for several years at the Gowan School in the Lebanon Community.
She was a homemaker and an avid gardener who loved to share her many flowers with friends and the community. She was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, but had a dear love for her home church Lebanon United Methodist and its members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Curtis Cox in 1982; three sisters, Hilda Ayers, Hazel Piercey Holmes and Catherin Gaston; five brothers, Howard Gaston, Stokley Gaston, Bruce Gaston, Wortham Gaston and Virgel Gaston. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Elsie Cox; a sister-in-law, Mildred Gaston; several nieces and nephews and a very special "adopted" daughter, Joyce Howell. A special love goes to Virginia Haskins, who in the last days and hours was a very dear friend to the family. Pallbearers to serve are Paul Nichols, Joe Gaston, Paul E. Gaston, Jeff Gaston, Gary Gaston and Denny Bush. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. today, Saturday, June 24, 2006 from the chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home with Rev. Mark McCaslin and Dr. Dennis Renshaw officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery, Jackson, TN.



Mary married Charlie Curtis COX. Charlie Curtis died in 1982.

They had the following children:
i. Mary Elsie.

ii. Joyce (Adopted).


209. Thomas Wortham GASTON. Born on 14 Jun 1913 in Spring Creek, Madison County, Tennessee. At the age of 92, Thomas Wortham died in New Orleans, Louisiana on 25 May 2006. Buried on 30 May 2006 in Highland Memorial Gardens, Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee. Resided in District 13, Gibson County, Tennessee in 1920.

Obituary: Graveside services for Mr. Thomas Wortham Gaston, 92, will be held at 3:30 P.M. Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Highland Memorial Gardens with Rev. Don Johnson officiating. Mr. Gaston died Thursday, May 25, 2006 at the home of his daughter in New Orleans, LA. Mr. Gaston was born on June 14, 1913 in Spring Creek, TN the son of the late Paul E. and Lula Pierce Gaston. Mr. Gaston was a Retired Chief of the Navy after 20 years of service to his country. After his retirement from the Navy he worked for TVA as a Cost Accountant for 35 years. Mr. Gaston was a member of First United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. Mr. Gaston was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen T. Gaston, in 2002. Survivors are daughters, Paulette Crain of New Orleans, LA and Tomi Sue Rusling of Mobile, AL; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Cox of Medina, TN and niece, Elsie Cox of Medina, TN. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, from 1:30 until time of service.



Thomas Wortham married Carmen TAYLOR. Born in 1911. At the age of 91, Carmen died in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee in Nov 2002.

Obituary: Carmen Taylor Gaston, 91, of Memphis, TN, formerly of Jackson, TN retired from the State Department of Education with 20 years of service, died Thursday at Kirby Pines Retirement Community after a 4 year battle with Alzheimers.



They had the following children:
i. Paulette. Resided in New Orleans, Louisiana in May 2006.

ii. Tomi Sue. Resided in Mobile, Alabama in May 2006.
