Family of James COFFMAN Senior (1) & Priscilla ?

2. Joseph COFFMAN. Born in 1790. At the age of 55, Joseph died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 24 Jul 1845. Joseph served in the War of 1812 under George Gregory, Tennessee Militia. Religion: He was a member of the Bent Creek Baptist Church, Jefferson County, in 1818.

1836 Tax Rolls of Henderson County, showed him owning 150 acres of land.

Joseph bought from the estate of Douglas Puckett in Jefferson County, Tennessee, in 1815.

On 28 Nov 1812 when Joseph was 22, he married Sarah MEALS, daughter of Samuel MEALS (1759-1802) & Winnie ? (1762-1828), in Jefferson County, Tennessee. Born on 29 Aug 1794 in Tennessee. At the age of 75, Sarah died in Henderson County, Tennessee in 1870. Alias/AKA: "Sallie".

They had the following children:

iii. Priscilla. Born in 1831 in Alabama.

iv. Benjamin. Born in 1832 in Alabama. Benjamin served Served as a Private in Company C, Russell's Unit, 4th Alabama Cavalry, CSA.

v. Joseph. Born in 1834 in Alabama.

vi. James. Born in 1837 in Alabama. James served Served as a Private in Company C, Russell's Unit, 4th Alabama Cavalry, CSA.

vii. Sarah. Born in 1839 in Alabama.


4. Susannah COFFMAN. Born on 13 Apr 1798 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. At the age of 53, Susannah died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 19 Aug 1851. Buried in 1851 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

On 2 Jul 1818 when Susannah was 20, she married William Henderson MEALS Senior, son of Samuel MEALS (1759-1802) & Winnie ? (1762-1828), in Jefferson County, Tennessee. Born on 8 Jan 1800 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. At the age of 59, William Henderson died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 4 Sep 1859. Buried in 1859 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.


They had the following children:
i. John James. Born on 8 Jul 1819. At the age of 2, John James died on 18 Jun 1822.

xi. Miles. Born on 9 Oct 1836 in Tennessee. At the age of 26, Miles died on 11 Apr 1863. Buried in 1863 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

15 xii. Frances Ann (1839-)
xiii. Samuel L.. Born on 12 Dec 1840 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 22, Samuel L. died in Grand Junction, Tennessee on 9 Jul 1863. Buried in National Cemetery, Corinth, Mississippi. Samuel L. served in Company K, 7th Tennessee Cavalry (U.S.).

Samuel L. Meals, enlisted into Company K, 7th Tennessee Cavalry (US), in Henderson County, Tennessee, on June 4, 1863. Records show him as 21, 5'7" tall, dark complexion, gray eyes, dark hair, born in Henderson County, Tennessee. He died at the hospital in Grand Junction, Tennessee, on July 9, 1863. Samuel was buried first at Grand Junction, Tennessee, but later moved to the National Cemetery at Corinth, Mississippi. Provided by Peggy Scott Holley.
