GREAT RECORD CHARLES KEE CAN BOAST OF A RECORD THAT CAN'T BE BEAT
Charles Kee, a resident of Henderson County, can boast of record that can't be beat. He is a brother of the late William, Richard, and James Kee and Mrs. Nancy Uptergrove and Mrs. Bettie Morgan, who lived in the vicinity of Juno. He was married to Miss Mary Cox, daughter of J.D. Cox of Carroll County, and to them they had born ten children, seven of whom are still living. He boasts of having in all a family of children and grandchildren, now living, one hundred and thirty seven. When married to begin house-keeping he had three quilts which his mother had made for him, and he made a good living all the time with aid of his good ????, he shared with him such blessings as were his, being always ready to assist him in every way to climb the hills of life, and thus pulling together, they had when the Civil War came on in the 60's accumulated 1000 acres of land and was the owner of four likely slaves, above a bountiful living all the way along. His wife departed from this life some 12 years ago. Mr. Kee has been a member of the Liberty Baptist Church of Carroll County 46 years and is now 84 years of age and is active for one of his age, having rode to Lexington 12 miles Monday. He boasts further of never but once using a cuss word, and that while he was a boy and being chastised for that by his dear mother has lived since without cursing, and he has lived in peace with his acquaintances and was never sued on a debt and has never sued any man. Truly this a good report and may his reward be such as belongs the truly great.
