Alias/AKA: "Roy". 03/19/04 Ron Park Carroll County News Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee Roy Stokes of Huntingdon has recently taken a new job – postmaster of the U.S. Post Office in Dresden. Stokes, who has served as supervisor at the Lexington Post Office for the past five and a half years, officially took over the new position March 8. He filled the vacancy left by former Dresden Postmaster Scott Sharpe, who was promoted to postmaster of Humboldt back in September of last year. Donnie Dodd, who filled in as officer in charge during the vacancy, will be returning to his former position as postmaster at Big Sandy. During his 25-year postal career, Stokes has served as officer in charge at both the Holladay and Camden Post Offices, and worked from 1985 to 1996 as a city carrier and clerk in Huntingdon. He started out back in 1983 as a mail carrier in Jackson. Before that, Stokes was employed for 10 years by the Tennessee Valley Authority as a biologist. He is also a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the U.S. Army from 1969-1970 in that conflict and receiving the Purple Heart. A graduate of Clarksburg High School, Stokes has a degree in biology and chemistry from the University of Tennessee in Martin. He also attended Bethel College for a while before his wartime military service. Stokes resides on Hawkins Creek Road with his wife, Lea Etta, who works with Dr. Volker Winkler in McKenzie, and their three children, Elizabeth, 14; Rebecca, 12; and Madeline, 7 – all students at Clarksburg School. They had the following children:
