36. Doye Adel LAWS. Born on 4 May 1914 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 87, Doye Adel died in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee on 20 Sep 2001. Buried on 23 Sep 2001 in Carroll County Memorial Gardens, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 12, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1920. Resided in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee in Oct 2000.

Doye Adell Simmons, 87, of Huntingdon, died Thursday, September 20, at her residence. Services were held on Sunday, September 23, at the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Martin Klamm officiated. Burial followed at Carroll Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers who served were Michael Simmons, Mark Simmons, Paul A. Simmons, Mark Stroz, Chet Rogers and Trey Quirk. Mrs. Simmons, the daughter of the late Goethe and Sophia Crider Laws, was born May 4, 1914, in Carroll County. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albie Simmons, who died June 5, 1997; a brother, Homer Laws; and two sisters, Lusetta Laws and Irene Rodgers.  She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Boyd of McKenzie; two sons, Gayford Simmons of McKenzie and Paul B. Simmons of Antioch; five brothers, Odell Laws of Nashville, Waldon Laws of Clarksburg, John Laws and Joe Laws, both of Chicago, Illinois, and Wilburn Laws of Huntingdon; three sisters, Evola Thompson, Dorothy Sanders, and Juanita McCord, all of Huntingdon; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.



On 18 Aug 1934 when Doye Adel was 20, she married Jacob Albie SIMMONS. Born on 9 Sep 1911. At the age of 85, Jacob Albie died on 5 Jun 1997.

ii. Brenda Faye. Born on 30 Oct 1941. Resided in McKenzie, Carroll County, Tennessee in Sep 2001.

On 22 Jun 1960 when Brenda Faye was 18, she married William Patrick BOYD, son of Otis E. BOYD (1886-1965) & Lou Willie DARNALL (1892-1972). Born on 14 May 1934. At the age of 45, William Patrick died on 14 Aug 1979. Alias/AKA: "Pat".

37. Homer Huston LAWS. Born on 17 Dec 1915 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 84, Homer Huston died in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee on 13 Sep 2000. Buried in Sep 2000 in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 12, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1920.

Obituary: Homer Huston Laws, 84, of Nashville, died Wednesday, September 13, at Wedgewood Nursing Home in Nashville, after an illness of one year. Services were held on Friday, September 15, at 2:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Bro. Tim Alexander, Bro. Gary Dodd, ministers, and Bro. Edward Coursey, a long-time co-worker at R.C. Bottling co., officiated. Burial followed in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers were nephews, Dennis Laws, Kerry Don Laws, Danny Haywood, Paul Simmons, Gene Thompson and Steve Morris. Honorary pallbearers were the Elders and Deacons of Vultee Church of Christ, George England and Dr. Richard Garman. Mr. Laws, the son of the late Goethe and Grecian Laws and Sophia Crider Laws of Carroll County, was born on December 17, 1915, the third of 12 children. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Lucetta, an infant sister, and Irene Rodgers. He and his wife, Donie Carnal Laws, moved to Nashville in October 1935, and he went to work for R.C. Bottling Company. He retired after 40 years of service with them. He and Donie traveled extensively, enjoying their retirement. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Donie Carnal Laws; a daughter, Sandra Laws; three grandchildren, Donald Edwards, Karen Edwards and Kenneth Edwards, and six great-grandchildren, all of the San Diego, California area; five brothers, Joe Laws and John Laws of Illinois, Odell Laws of Nashville, and Waldon Laws and Wilburn Laws, both of Huntingdon; and four sisters, Doye Simmons, Juanita McCord, Dorothy Sanders and Evola Thompson, all of Huntingdon.

On 7 Jul 1935 when Homer Huston was 19, he married Donie CARNAL, daughter of Josephus CARNAL (1885-1959) & Mary Frances SCOTT (1887-1973), in Carroll County, Tennessee. Born on 23 Oct 1916.

They had one child:

38. Sophia Irene LAWS. Born on 22 Jul 1922.

On 22 Oct 1938 when Sophia Irene was 16, she married Jim Henry Jessie Jandy RODGERS. Born in 1915. At the age of 59, Jim Henry Jessie Jandy died on 28 Aug 1974. Buried in 1974 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee.

39. Goethe Odell LAWS. Born on 15 Sep 1925. Resided in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee in Oct 2000.

On 10 Oct 1948 when Goethe Odell was 23, he married Opal Jane DILL, daughter of Guy Ellwood DILL (1895-1995) & Erin Captolie HOOD (1898-1982). Born on 13 Feb 1927 in Carroll County, Tennessee.

40. Evola Virgie LAWS. Born on 28 Aug 1927. Resided in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee in Oct 2000.

Waldon Huell LAWS. Born on 10 Jul 1931 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 71, Waldon Huell died in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee in Jun 2003. Buried on 17 Jun 2003 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee in Oct 2000. Alias/AKA: "Preacher".

Obituary: Services will be Tuesday, June 17 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Burial in Sellers Hill Cemetery. Survivors: wife, Dorothy Laws; daughters, Sherry Carwile, Kimberly Laws; sons, Kerry & Timothy Laws; sisters, Evola Thompson, Dorothy Sanders, Juanita McCord; brothers, Odell, John, Joe & Wilburn.

Obituary: Mr. Walden Huell “Preacher” Laws, 71, died on Saturday, June 14 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, June 17 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. L.D. Willis officiating. Interment followed in the Sellers Hill Cemetery. Mr. Laws was born on July 10, 1931 in Carroll County to the late Gothe Grecian and Sophia Virgie Crider Laws. He was a farmer and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, whom he married on June 5, 1954, Dorothy Pritchard Laws; two daughters, Sherry Carwile of Jackson and Kimberly Laws of McKenzie; two sons, Kerry Don Laws of McKenzie and Timothy Lynn Laws of Nashville; three sisters, Evola Thompson, Dorothy Sanders and Juanita McCord, all of Huntingdon; four brothers, Odell Laws of Nashville, John Laws of Palatine, Illinois, Joe Laws and Wilburn Laws, both of Huntingdon; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to one of the following organizations: Carl Perkins Center, St. Judes Children’s Hospital or the American Cancer Society.


On 5 Jun 1954 when Waldon Huell was 22, he married Dorthy Louise PRITCHARD, daughter of John Alvin PRITCHARD (1891-1952) & Nanny Lou Ellen HARDY (1900-1952). Born on 5 Oct 1928. Resided in Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in May 2000. Resided in 6th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1930.

They had the following children:

42. Juanita Evelyn LAWS. Born on 16 May 1934. Resided in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee in Oct 2000.

On 5 Aug 1950 when Juanita Evelyn was 16, she first married Joseph Warren HAYWOOD, son of Thomas Leroy HAYWOOD (1897-1970) & Ima Jewell CARNAL (1905-1982), in Corinth, Mississippi. Born on 16 May 1930 in Yuma, Carroll County, Tennessee. They were divorced in 1972.

In 1981 when Juanita Evelyn was 46, she third married Jay HARRISON. They were divorced in 1984.

Juanita Evelyn fourth married Tommy McCORD.

43. John Wesley LAWS. Born on 4 Oct 1935. Resided in Palatine, Illinois in Oct 2000.

On 8 Oct 1955 when John Wesley was 20, he married Shelby Jean SELLERS, daughter of Alvin Thomas SELLERS (1890-1970) & Fannie May SELLERS (1902-). Born on 21 Aug 1938. Resided in Palatine, Illinois in Jan 2004.

They had the following children:

44. Joe Vernon LAWS. Born on 22 Dec 1937. Resided in Illinois in Oct 2000.

On 29 Jun 1957 when Joe Vernon was 19, he married Vanita CARROLL, daughter of Homer Earnest CARROLL & Roxie Lee SMOTHERS. Born on 17 Sep 1938.

45. Wilburn Ray LAWS. Born on 8 Aug 1941. Resided in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee in Oct 2000.

On 28 Jun 1958 when Wilburn Ray was 16, he married Frances Orene GURLEY, daughter of John Oder GURLEY (1899-1980) & Florence Corene HARDY (1907-1999). Born on 14 Jul 1943. Resided in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1999.
