12. William C. SCOTT. Born on 23 Feb 1793 in Kentucky. At the age of 76, William C. died in Fannin County, Texas in 1870.

William C, Scott left Barren County, Kentucky; went to Cooper County (Moniteau) Missouri; then to Grayson County, Texas.


On 21 Jan 1811 when William C. was 17, he first married Priscilla Avery HOWARD, daughter of William HOWARD & Jane HART, in Barren County, Kentucky. Born in Kentucky.

Priscilla Avery Howard died in Grayson County, Texas during the period of 1860-61.

They had the following children:
i. Jane. Born in 1813 in Kentucky.

Jane Scott was born about 1813. Jane had died by 1849.

On 8 Sep 1831 when Jane was 18, she married James J MORRIS, in Cooper County, Missouri.

ii. Tolbert Thomas. Born on 15 May 1818. At the age of 70, Tolbert Thomas died in Grayson County, Texas on 7 May 1889.

On 21 Dec 1848 when Tolbert Thomas was 30, he married Amanda FULKS, in Moniteau County, Missouri.

iii. Eleanor Young. Born in Sep 1819 in Kentucky.

Eleanor Scott was widowed and living with T J Scott in Johnson Co Texas 1900.


Eleanor Young married ? FINLEY.

iv. William Howard. Born in 1820 in Kentucky.

On 1 Aug 1847 when William Howard was 27, he first married Sarah GIST, in Moniteau County, Missouri.

On 13 Mar 1853 when William Howard was 33, he second married Sally Ann DOGGETT, in Monitneau County, Missouri.

v. Stephen Edward. Born in 1823 in Monroe County, Kentucky. At the age of 72, Stephen Edward died in Belcherville, Montague County, Texas on 26 Jan 1895.

On 12 Feb 1843 when Stephen Edward was 20, he married Sarah Ann FRANCIS, in Miller County, Missouri.

vi. Harmon. Born in 1825 in Cooper County, Missouri.

vii. Jesse Howard. Born in 1830 in Cooper County, Missouri. At the age of 34, Jesse Howard died on 9 Aug 1864. Buried in Akers Cemetery, Sherman, Texas.

Jesse Howard Scott died on 9 Aug 1864 of injuries in the Civil War.

On 2 Feb 1859 when Jesse Howard was 29, he married Sarah Jane FULKS, in Moniteau County, Missouri.

viii. Thomas Jefferson. Born in Feb 1837 in Morgan County, Missouri.

On 17 Oct 1854 when Thomas Jefferson was 17, he married Roxanna Jane CLARK, in Grayson County, Texas.

ix. Smith Bishop. Born in Feb 1838 in Morgan County, Missouri.

On 7 Feb 1867 when Smith Bishop was 29, he married Mary C HOWARD, in Red River County, Texas.


On 21 Nov 1861 when William C. was 68, he second married Mary W. JACKSON, in Collins County, Texas. Alias/AKA: "Polly".

13. Sarah B. SCOTT. Born on 18 Jan 1795 in Kentucky.

In 1813 when Sarah B. was 17, she married James Stewart MITCHELL, son of Moses MITCHELL & Mary GRANT (1753-), in Barren County, Kentucky. Born on 14 Aug 1793 in Monroe County, Kentucky.

Military: James S. Mitchell was a veteran of War of 1812.

Born on 4 Aug 1798 in Monroe Co., Kentucky. Religion: Church of Christ. James S. Mitchell was born in Monroe Co., Kentucky, son of Moses Mitchell and Mary Grant. James moved to southern Kentucky where he married Sarah B. Scott, daughter of John William Scott and Frances Wood. Married in Barren County in 1813, they settled in Monroe County, Kentucky. Monroe County borders Clay County, Tennessee. A J. Stewart Mitchell is shown on the 1820 Monroe County US Census with a wife and 3 female children under 10 years old. James was a member of the Union Church in Monroe County, which was near the settlement of Gamaliel near the Clay Co., Tennessee and Monroe County, Kentucky line. He was ordained a deacon in 1821 and served in that role as late as 1824. The 1830 US Census for Monroe County, Kentucky shows a James S. Mitchell with a wife and 8 children all under 15 years old. The 1840 Henderson County US Census shows James S. and wife with three children at home under 20 years old. James S. Mitchell was living in Dist 9, Henderson Co., Tennessee in 1850 (Red Mound are, which is in Northern Henderson County near the Carroll County line) with his wife Sarah. All of the children are gone by 1850. In 1858 James S. and Sarah moved to White Co., Arkansas to join their son John Scott Mitchell, M.D.

14. John L SCOTT Junior. Born on 11 Feb 1797 in Barren County, Kentucky. John L died in Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in House # 1630, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1850.

John S Scott was probably buried near the back of Sellers Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee, near his children. He also served as a Justice of the Peace. His homeplace was on highway 22 north of Sellers Hill. His property was divided in January 1859. He also served as an elder of Roan's Creek Church of Christ.


about 1821 when John L was 23, he married Rebecca BRANDON, daughter of Harrison BRANDON & Sarah Elizabeth HARLAN (1776-), in Smith County, Tennessee. Born in 1804 in Union County, South Carolina. Resided in House # 1630, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1850.

15. Matilda SCOTT. Born on 10 Aug 1799. At the age of 90, Matilda died in Woodland, Yalo County, California on 2 May 1890.

On 22 Feb 1816 when Matilda was 16, she married Lat HOWARD, in Barren County, Kentucky.

16. Chronicle F. SCOTT. Born on 3 Apr 1801 in Kentucky. At the age of 78, Chronicle F. died in Carroll County, Tennessee after 1880.

Chronicle F. married Jane BRANDON, daughter of Harrison BRANDON & Sarah Elizabeth HARLAN (1776-), in Kentucky. Born in 1811 in Union District, South Carolina.

Caladonia married William R. SELLERS, son of John SELLERS (1782-1844) & Henrietta NORWOOD (1784-1866). Born on 26 May 1824 in South Carolina. At the age of 74, William R. died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 28 Sep 1898. Buried in 1898 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1850.


17. Abigail SCOTT. Born on 9 May 1803 in Kentucky. At the age of 56, Abigail died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 1 Sep 1859. Buried in 1859 in Roans Creek Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1850.

Obituary: Gospel Advocate 1859, page 288, obituary for Abigail Scott Brandon. Died at her residence near Roan's Creek Campground, Carroll County. Husband John, who departed September 8, 1858, her death occurred first of the month due to an attack of apoplexy. She was 57. She engaged in Christian warfare early. Confessed the Messiah and was baptized at Roan's Creek by Brother DeWhitt.

Obituary: Dear Brethren: It has become our duty through the Advocate the death of our worthy and highly esteemed sister, Abigail Brandon. She died at her residence near Boone's Creek Camp Ground, Carroll County, Tennessee. She was the wife of Bro. John Brandon, who departed this life on the 8th of September 1858. Her death occurred on the first of this month from an attack of apoplexy. Sister Brandon was 57 years of age when she obtained release from the cares and troubles of earth. She engaged in the Christian warfare in early life--confessed the Messiah and was buried with him in baptism at Roan's Creek camp ground by Bro. DeWhitt. From this time to her death she lived an exemplary life--a pattern of good works and humble piety--exhibiting her faith in the Savior, and an unwavering reliance upon the promises of the Holy Spirit, given in the Gospel by a life of obedience to the teachings of the Apostles of Christ.--Your Brother, J.M. Selph, September 1860

In 1822 when Abigail was 18, she married John BRANDON, son of Harrison BRANDON & Sarah Elizabeth HARLAN (1776-). Born in 1798 in South Carolina. At the age of 60, John died on 8 Sep 1858. Resided in 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1850.

BAPTIZED: United with The Christian Church in 1826. Lived a Christian life for 32 years (verified by the "Gospel Advocated, page 384, December 1858).

On 28 May 1873 when Frances was 47, she married John R. HOLMES, son of Thomas HOLMES (1796-) & Rebecca ? (1802-), in Carroll County, Tennessee. Born in 1840 in Tennessee. Resided in District 13, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1850. Resided in District 13, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1860.

v. William H.. Born in 1831 in Tennessee. At the age of 26, William H. died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 13 Jan 1857. Resided in 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1850.

Obituary: Gospel Advocate, page 127, 1857, obit for William H. Brandon, son of John and Abigail Brandon who reside near Roan's Creek Campground. He became a Christian at 15, sick for 13 days, died 13 January 1857. Left an
affectionate mother, father, brothers, and sisters.

vi. Chronicle Scott. Born in 1835 in Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1850.

Chronicle S Brandon at age 27 enlisted as Private, Company D, 7th Tennessee Cavalry (USA). He received an invalid pension in 1880. (#356,165) In the 1890 veteran's census he was living in Benton County, Tennessee. His second wife, Philia Ann Johnson Blount, received a widow's pension in 1904. (#818,004).

On 4 Jul 1861 when Chronicle Scott was 26, he first married Rosanna BENTON, in Carroll County, Tennessee.

Chronicle Scott second married Philia Ann JOHNSON.

18. Ellender SCOTT. Born on 5 Jun 1805 in Kentucky. At the age of 54, Ellender died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 26 Mar 1860. Buried in Mar 1860 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee.

Ellender married John TOSH Junior, son of John TOSH Senior (1777-) & Margaret JOHNSON (1773-). Born on 26 May 1802 in South Carolina.

Served in Company G, 7th Tennessee CAV (US) during the American Civil War.

On 8 Nov 1858 when Lafayette Mancill was 28, he first married Margaret A. GRANT, daughter of George Washington GRANT (1810-1872) & Elizabeth C. ? (1812-1875), in Carroll County, Tennessee. Born on 19 Mar 1835 in Tennessee. At the age of 25, Margaret A. died on 18 Jul 1860. Buried in Jul 1860 in Grant Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 13, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1850.

On 11 Mar 1868 when Lafayette Mancill was 38, he second married Loucetta J. LAWS, daughter of Hiram LAWS (1803-1879) & Jincy Ann SIMS (1807-1873), in Carroll County, Tennessee. Born on 10 Nov 1833 in Tennessee. At the age of 87, Loucetta J. died on 22 Sep 1921. Buried in Sep 1921 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee.

No children were produced in this marriage.

iv. Jane. Born on 10 Feb 1833. At the age of 26, Jane died on 1 Oct 1859. Buried in Oct 1859 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee.

Jane married W. H. McGEE.

v. Larcena E.. Born on 4 Jan 1835 in Tennessee. At the age of 56, Larcena E. died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 5 Sep 1891. Buried in Sep 1891 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee.

vi. Granville. Born on 20 Jan 1838. At the age of 20, Granville died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 7 Aug 1858. Buried in Aug 1858 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee.

19. Minerva SCOTT. Born on 3 May 1810 in Barren County, Kentucky. At the age of 84, Minerva died in Ripley County, Missouri on 8 Jun 1894. Buried in Jun 1894 in Gatewood Church of Christ Cemetery, Gatewood, Ripley County, Missouri.

Minerva Scott and husband, William Holland, their sons, Wiley, John, and a younger brother, Scott, and their daughter, Minerva, who was married to Beverly Donaho, settled 15 miles southwest of Doniphan in the community of Tucker, Ripley County, Missouri.


Minerva married William C. HOLLAND, in Smith County, Tennessee. Born on 23 Aug 1805 in Virginia. At the age of 77, William C. died on 4 Aug 1883. Buried in Aug 1883 in Gatewood Church of Christ Cemetery, Gatewood, Ripley County, Missouri.
